"From WINNING BALL GAMES to WINNING THE LOST I risked it all and won BIG on God's team."
Being raised in church I never really understood the idea of receiving Christ as my personal savior. I never understood what the gospel meant, I never understood what Grace was, I never understood what it meant to love. I had no idea! Then I encountered Christ but it didn't start immediately. I had a journey that took 10 years to develop. It started when I was in ninth grade trying to find my foot in the huge new world of high school. Hanging with different types of friends, I still remain the shy guy. I remain the guy that no one wanted to be around. The one that had all the gifts inside but had no clue because I didn't know my worth. Then I joined the football team. When I did, I realized that I had something that others didn't have and it was talent. I began to escalate in the idea of being the jock and receiving a lot of attention from colleges, coaches and girls as well.
Arrogance, conceit and the race to the top began to grip my heart and my mind. All my priorities were messed up. From being the sweet, shy guy to the bonehead athlete. Until my junior year when I broke my ankle, fame escaped me and shame entered. All the friends were gone, all the girls were gone, all the accolades were gone, the reputation that I tried so hard to keep was completely gone.
My world changed dramatically seeing that no one was there. All the football coaches backed off and my grades were extremely low, there was no hope for my future. I remember one night in my bedroom I was watching the sermon from a Preacher that said, "God can turn your worst situations into the best possibilities." It really touched me. At that moment that I decided that I wanted a REAL relationship with Christ. It humbled me to surrender my all to Jesus.
My life has never been the same because I didn't just live for the approval others anymore. I stood on my own and I decided to follow Jesus and what He said about me. I found myself having a desire to seek Him more and more every day. I found my new passions to be a beacon pointing to hope and love through Jesus. I look back all the time and think I have gone from WINNING BALL GAMES to WINNING THE LOST! I risked it ALL and WON BIG on God's team! A scripture I walk in with Christ was a promise that adapted into my way of living: "Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” (Joshua 1:9 NIV)
I stand on the word knowing that who I was isn't me it is merely apart of my story. I now walk boldly in what God has for me! With God, I'm never scared but know that in the will of God for life, even in the most dangerous places, it is the safest place to be! I'm always ready and willing to take risks and go whenever and wherever.
